In house finance training
Why bother?
Finance touches almost every part of running a charity, from the everyday decisions about budgets and cashflow to the bigger conversations about sustainability, risk, priorities and the future.
Our in-house finance training is designed specifically for small charities and purpose-led organisations and can be shaped around the needs of your team, senior leaders or trustees. We start with where people are, build from what they already know and create a supportive space to explore finance together, with no prior financial knowledge assumed.
The aim is to help people understand their organisation’s finances, feel more confident talking about money and use financial information to make thoughtful decisions in support of their purpose.
Financial management training
We can help your team build confidence in the practical foundations of charity finance, including budgeting, cashflow forecasting, management accounts, financial reporting, restricted and unrestricted funds and reserves. Sessions can focus on particular skills or bring these areas together to help people develop a clearer picture of their organisation’s overall financial position.
Financial strategy training
For organisations looking further ahead, we explore how finance connects with strategy, purpose and organisational resilience. This might include understanding your business model, exploring your income mix and cost base, scenario planning, thinking about reserves and risk, and considering how your organisation might respond as circumstances change.
These conversations create space to consider different financial futures and the choices and trade-offs that come with them, helping leaders make decisions that bring money and mission together.
Financial governance and leadership training
We also work with trustees and senior leaders to build shared confidence around financial governance and leadership. Sessions can explore trustee responsibilities, financial oversight, risk, reserves, internal controls, effective reporting and the questions boards need to ask to understand both the organisation’s current position and where it may be heading.
We are particularly interested in helping boards and executive teams develop a shared understanding of finance, so that responsibility is clear, conversations are constructive and financial decisions are connected to the organisation’s wider purpose.
What you can expect
We shape our in house training around you. Every small charity has its own context, pressures and priorities, so we can tailor the training around the questions that matter most to your organisation. This could be a focused workshop on one area, a half or full day bringing several themes together, or a programme of sessions that develops financial confidence and capability over time.
Our approach is practical, participative and grounded in the realities of leading and running a small charity. We want people to leave feeling more able to understand what their finances are telling them, talk about money with confidence and make considered decisions about what comes next.
Fees
Our 3 hour sessions cost:
£300 (annual income £1m+)
£250 (annual income -£1m)
£200 (annual income <£500k)
